Good morning/afternoon/evening,
you may have stumbled across this site via a search engine, a link, a friend, or random perusing; however, no matter what the cause, the important part is what you will take from it.
This website is dedicated to promoting the use of Fantasy Literature in the classroom, primarily the high school classroom.
Unfortunately, Fantasy has been pushed aside as a legitimate educational genre for decades (please see the History page for further detail on the debate) and has been labelled as "fluff" by scholars, professionals, and readers alike.
This is not the case.
As you will discover through your readings on this site, Fantasy not only provides a capturing genre of literature for readers, both young and old, but also presents stylistic and thematic challenges for students. The writing styles of authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien and Guy Gavriel Kay will be delved in to, and the morals and values presented by these authors, as well as those such as Mercedes Lackey and Jean M. Auel, will be brought to the forefront.
Finally, the historical aspects of these novels will also be looked into, giving Fantasy a whole new meaning, and giving you a whole new appreciation for it as educational literature.
Thank you, and I hope you come to feel the same way as I do about this useful classroom tool.
